The development of Asia-pacific has been the focus of the academic discourses in the field of the international politics and economics in the drastic changes of the world after the end of the Cold War. In the past decade, the rapid economic development of ASEAN countries and China has driven that of the regional economics. On the other hand, the competitive mentality of the Asia-pacific countries has complicated the international relations across the region. The economic and diplomatic disputes such as TPP, RCEP, and territorial disputes emerge from this context. In this background, the development of Taiwan-Japan relations deserves to be reviewed and explored. The post-war Taiwan-Japan relations had been constructed by the intimate connection of geopolitics, history, societal elites, and trade of the two nations. However, after the end of the Cold War, it has been the competition and cooperation of the neighboring countries and the development of the cross-strait relations that drive Taiwan and Japan to deepen their exchanges upon the bases mentioned above. Aiming to review and explore the Taiwan-Japan relations, this conference invites the scholars and researchers from Taiwanese and Japanese academics and think tanks to join the roundtable discussion.
