●   Conference

1. Purpose: The Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and the destruction it inflicted was unquestionably the greatest crisis in Japan’s postwar history. The unprecedented disaster has given rise  to deep introspection regarding Japan’s postwar path of development. For social scientists studying Japan, discovering new research topics and paradigms after such a catastrophe has become a major focal point. This new state of affairs poses both challenges and opportunities, especially for the emerging fields of Japan studies in Taiwan. In order to make the most of these challenges and opportunities, we are inviting several prestigious scholars from both Japan and the United States to participate in this international conference, and the four main themes including Reviews of Postwar Japanese Model, the Post-311 Challenges and Transitions, Japan in An Evolving East Asia, and the New Perspectives and Paradigms on Japan Studies. We sincerely hope such event could make some contribution to increase the interactions and opinions exchanges among scholars and further to promote and internationalize Taiwan’s Japan studies.

1.     We welcome scholars and graduate students whose research focuses on Japanese politics, economics, industry, technology, national security and foreign policy, society, culture, and  other areas related to the conference topics to submit research papers.

3.     Location: Conference Room,College of Social Sciences, National Sun Yat-sen University

4.     Time: 17^th of November(Saturday) and 18^th of November(Sunday), 2012

5.     Language(s): Chinese, Japanese, and English

6.     Mode of Presentation and Allotted Time: Each presentation will have a 20-minute time limit, followed by a five-minute discussion and critique session and a ten-minute open discussion session

1.  Method of submission and submission deadline:

①.  Please submit abstracts on or before 30^th of July, 2012; all submissions must be written in Chinese, English, or Japanese and sent electronically to the following email address: cfjsaa@mail.nsysu.edu.tw (must include topic, abstract, five or fewer keywords, the author’s name and name of organization and position)

②.  Results will be announced on 15^th of August, 2012 (expected)
