201307 The Dean of the College of Social Sciences Visits Japan
The Dean of the National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) College of Social Sciences and the Director of NSYSU’s Center for Japanese Studies (CJS), Dr. Lin Wen-cheng, accepted Senshu University’s (Japan) July, 2013 invitation to visit Japan. Accompanying Dr. Lin were a host of NSYSU’s Institute of China and Asia-Pacific Studies (ICAPS) and CJS faculty and staff, including CJS Chief Executor Kuo Yujen, CJS Assistant Lin Yi-li, CJS part-time and project-related assistants. During their short four-day trip, the group visited Senshu University (attending a conference there), the Panasonic Corporation’s PHP Institute, the Tokyo Foundation, and the Japan Institute of International Affairs.
At Senshu University, the group attended the conference entitled, “Exploring Social Capital in East Asia: Community, Society Trust and Safety-net.” Dean Lin, representing the CJS, conducted an outstanding presentation that led to a spirited discussion between international scholars and received high praise from Senshu University President Yoshihiro Hidaka.
At the Panasonic PHP Institute, a visit that was arranged by Professor Maida, a former visiting professor at NSYSU, a symposium titled “China after Xi Jinping” was held. Following the symposium, there was a dinner banquet at which participants were able to interact with share their experiences.
At the Tokyo Foundation and the Japan Institute of International Affairs, Dean Lin introduced CJS to attendees, discussing the changes taking place at CJS and the importance and results of these changes, and expressed the ability and willingness of the CJS to continue and expand its cooperation with these and other institutes.
